If you’re an iPhone user or have ever used one of the Amazon Echo devices, chances are you’re familiar with Siri and Alexa, respectively. Both of these technologies work as personal assistants designed to answer questions, schedule tasks, and make life easier.
While Siri and Alexa have been relegated to phones, tablets, and speakers, one of the largest hotel chains in the world is already taking the steps to use them in their hotel. The Marriott brand is currently using its Aloft brand of hotels to test Apple’s Siri. If all goes according to plan, these intelligent assistants would allow guests to issue commands such as turning the lights on and off, adjusting the temperature, or controlling the television. As for Alexa, guests would be able to use it more for answering questions, such as events in the local area.
Currently, Alexa and Siri are being tested in just a handful of rooms, but there are plans to expand to more Aloft hotels as well Marriott’s other brands. There are no immediate plans to also implement Google’s voice assistant currently found on Android devices.
