The 217-room Hotel Phillips in Kansas City has a rich history going all the way back to the early 1930s and has been listed on the National Registry of Historic Places since 1979. The classic building within the downtown area is recognized for its gorgeous art deco lobby featuring elaborate bronze and nickel metalwork, and it remains one of the top hotels in the area. The hotel will now be undergoing extensive renovations after being acquired by Chicago-based Arbor Lodging Partners. Hotel Phillips was originally purchased in 2001 by Marcus Corp but will now be managed by NVN Hotels, an Arbor affiliate.
Arbor will be focusing heavily on preserving and reinforcing the history of Hotel Phillips but does plan to refocus its identity as an experience and lifestyle driven hotel. This will be achieved by providing food and beverage outlets plus programming focused on creativity. Upon completion, it will become a part of the Hilton brand’s upscale Curio Collection, a one-of-a-kind group of hotels catering to travelers pursuing local discoveries.
Currently, the Hotel Phillips features amenities like its 12 Baltimore restaurant and bar, over 10,000 square feet of meeting space, and more. Singer, dancer, actress, and author Tina Turner and the late actor John Barrymore are among the many famous names that have stayed at this luxurious hotel.
