When booking a hotel, the customary thing to do is to choose the number of days or nights you plan on staying. This tried and true approach has remained a staple of the hotel industry for decades, but one company calling itself Recharge is looking to completely redefine the idea of hotel bookings. Soon, you may be able to book a hotel room for just a couple of minutes.
The Recharge app allows users to book a room for 67 cents a minute, which translates to $40 an hour. Despite seeming potentially far-fetched, the app has already gained the attention of investors. Recharge is geared towards individuals who for example may only need a temporary room so that they can freshen up and take a shower before heading to an evening outing or a mother who needs to nurse her child or change the child’s diaper.
Recharge currently has working relationships with major names like Starwood and Hyatt in the San Francisco area and has plans to expand beyond the Bay Area where it’s currently operating. The rooms are not bought and resold and there are also plans in the works to offer day rates beyond the current per minute charges.
